I live in Kent. The wholly selective system means that class differences are entrenched and Kent has more 'failing' schools than other LAs. The route to social mobility is good local schools - anyone who believes differently should look at the hard evidence here in Kent. Admission to selective schools depends on mass coaching by those that can afford it. Therefore, few who can't pay to be 'ready' for the 11+ pass the test. Families and communities are divided and a divisive, unhealthy attitude to individual potential is rife. Stereotypes and labelling abound. The educational experience of all children would be vastly enhanced if children moved together to their local school.
